On Thursday, February 23, 2012 the man known to many as Roman Ragazzi took his own life. Ragazzi was a major porn star who worked under contract with Raging Stallion Studios and was their Man of the Year for 2007. He was 38.
When director Chris Ward publicized his promotion as the studio's Man of the Year I recall him genuinely impressed by Ragazzi's masculine physique and powerful sexuality. (Unfortunately that release for me has been lost to time because I also recall him being described in the press materials as an Italian.)
Ragazzi was of Israeli descent and his real name was Dror Barak. GayPornBlog reported in 2007 of Ragazzi losing his
job at the Isreali consulate in New York City after being outed as a porn star.
One of our operating philosophies at Friskyfans has always been that sex and sexuality is good, and we always dislike seeing porn stars ridiculed or hurt because of their chosen profession. It's inevitable when porn stars meet a tragic end for the negative comments and criticism to pile up, such as when Kent North killed himself in 2007. I never met Ragazzi, but as someone who's enjoyed porn throughout my life, I have good memories.
Our Memories of Roman Ragazzi
Ragazzi carried the flag for Raging Stallion through a whole slate of movies. However it may not be as generally known that his first movie was for Collin O'Neal: Collin O'Neal's Miami filmed in late 2006. Pictured on the DVD boxcover with C.J. Madison, they park their motorboat up next to a shirtless Mason Wyler and invite him on board. Out on the rolling sea they have a fantastic three-way under the Florida sun. It's a nice combination of body types: the massive Ragazzi, the bald Madison and the fair twink Wyler. In the course of many positions, they both top Ragazzi.
After signing with Raging Stallion, Ragazzi appears in the excellent Monster Bang video Tailpipes, a first rate gay porn take on the garage mechanic fetish. In this film he topped by previous Man of the Year Remy Delaine.
2007 was also the year for Raging Stallion's landmark production GRUNTS, in which Ragazzi was cast as a major star. Playing one of the movie's new recruits, the former soldier endures intense drills by both sergeants Jake Deckard and the indefatigable Ricky Sinz. Great stuff.

Despite whatever turmoils and problems Ragazzi faced, his generous work will produce many fond memories for all of us.
